Minnetonka Orchards

minnetonkaorchards

About a week ago my friend Kara and I went to Minnetonka Orchards, between hot cider and hay rides, we managed to explore the corn maze, make friends with the sheep and take a whole lot of pictures. Growing up I never had an opportunity to go to an orchard like this, mostly because we don’t do that in Russia, so I was trying to catch up. The highlight of my day there was being called a walking page out of Anthropologie catalog, definitely made my day! I’m going to keep walking ;)

Emerald and Leather Pleats

fauxleatherpleatedskirt

My love for last year’s pantone color of the year grows stronger every fall. And this year it’s no exception. Shopping designer collections at Target is addicting and worth it. I always end up happy with my purchases, no matter what the reviews may say. This emerald button down is from last fall’s Philip Lim collection, and the faux leather skirt is from Macy’s – I bought it after Courtney Kerr fashion show a couple weeks ago.

I accessorized the look with Rebecca Minkoff’s 5 zip mini and these lace and sequin embellished heels.

Coffee Table Fashion

2014-09-17 07.31.01

I am always looking for new books to add to my coffee table or any other flat surface in my living room. You know, the kind that you can look through on a rainy day and doze off. The kind that inspires you. The kind, that like a good friend has few words, but understands.

So here are some of my choices for your coffee table ;) Enjoy!

Layers of Fall #ThriftStyleThursday

fallaccessories

Fall has always been about layers for many, and I am no exception. There is something about cozying up in a favorite sweater or scarf. It’s to the point of emotional attachment almost. And I don’t even want to try and explain it.

When fall becomes an accessory, you know you are doing it right!

It’s been a tough September for the Thrift Style Thursday group, but after everyone has reconsidered, we came back together, maybe not such a large group as before, but we are determined to bring you style and love every Thursday! Even if it’s not all thrifted ;)

Courtney Kerr on Fashion, Blogging and RewardStyle

Thursday after class I was in a rush. But it wasn’t to get home and study for the next midterm. I was on my way to Macy’s Southdale to interview Courtney Kerr and attend the fashion show after. Courtney and I talked about blogging, rewardStyle, social media, coffee and makeup! She is absolutely amazing in person, and reminded me of another favorite TV personality – Chelsea Handler.

Just click play to listen to the interview:

The Macy’s Fashion Rocks event that followed was absolutely amazing. Courtney is a great host, and made the looks so relatable. She followed the current trends: menswear and rocker chic, and gave helpful style advice to the audience after. Needless to say, I did some shopping afterwards, and if you follow me on Instagram, you will probably see the looks before anyone else ;)

Grey Area

Everything is changing and everything is constantly moving. I can’t believe I’ve already been in school for a month! University has definitely pushed and stretched me in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. But one thing remained the same – I still love vintage and clothes, and styling my daily outfits. Probably even more now, than ever.

I have told the story of the jacket in my Instagram post yesterday, but I will share it again here. And if you are a thrifter, or a vintage shopper you will understand what I went through to get it.

I was at Steeple People on Franklin and Lyndale, actually trying to find someone new to talk to (for a class assignment), when I noticed a girl find this jacket. She actually asked one of the store volunteers to get it down for her, because it was hanging up high under the ceiling. Of course now I wanted it too. It was a perfect jacket that I wanted before I even knew I needed or wanted it. After about 30 minutes she decided against it, and set it back down. I guess I just got lucky this time, because I am literally living in it this fall. And just in case you are wondering, it is a wool Talbots jacket in light grey, the softest, most comfortable thing I’ve worn in a long time.

In this look I wore it over a vintage black dress, paired with a scarf I got from Popsugar Must-have box, and the black boots I got for Christmas two years ago, that my father-in-law brought from Germany.

I am wearing it again today, so make sure you follow me on Instagram!

Fall of Thoughts: Feminism

October

October is here, with rain, and leaves, and puddles, and smell of Halloween in the air. October brings new posts to my blog. I decided to start a series of posts that relate to relevant subjects, and issues that we may face in the society today. I guess it started with observation, my morning and night commute to and from the U. My passion to share not only the daily styles, but the daily thoughts as well.

Feminism has been on my mind lately. Of course it’s also been on national television and social media. Starting with Emma Watson’s speech at the UN, to the Chanel Spring/Summer 2015 collection presentation that ended with a staged protest (Good article on Jezebel about that). The same topic, raised in two different ways. Staging versus reality. Personal opinion versus trend. Going with the flow versus standing up for yourself.

So how do we stop the feminism from becoming a trend? Because Taylor Swift is already on the band wagon praising Emma Watson? I don’t think we can. I think what comes next is education all the young high school girls on what feminism is and what it isn’t.

Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

Feminism is not girl power! It’s not a group hug and a yay! It’s more! Feminism is not about calling a hook up after a party rape. Feminism is knowing the facts, numbers and standards of economy, and being able to apply that knowledge to the current situation.

But now that we know what feminism isn’t, it seems like that’s what we want it to be a whole lot.

Just like with everything in life, we need to be selective with feminism. Unless you want to walk down the runway, protesting in an imaginary world created by designer, whose main goal is to sell clothes.

September Grunge

Reflections, and maybe thought about the past have been on my mind a lot. September is always a hard month for me, with my Grandpa passing away last year, and me not being there, like I was for my Grandma, I get emotional and feel incomplete.

Maybe that’s why I more than feel the grunge trend of the 90’s? It makes me feel closer to home, closer to my childhood.

It was 11 years ago in September that I started college, and now I am at it again! Dejavu is stronger than ever!

September, I am glad you are almost over.

Oversized Coat Trend 2014

OversizedCoatStyling OversizedCoatTrend2014 OversizedCoatTrend2014

The oversized coat trend is one of my favorites this fall! Nothing like a soft feel of a coat to make you cozy and warm on a chilly autumn day. It’s the Snuggie of the fashion world.

#EnvisionMPLS Fall 2014

With MN fashion week in full swing, I absolutely had to post about Envision. It took place last Friday and once again was held at the Orchestra Hall, which, if you ask me, is a perfect venue for this event! It started with an inspiration message from Tricia Khutoretsky who reminded everyone present that “We are not New York, we are not Miami, we are Minneapolis…”

Once again the show was a mix of local designer looks and local boutiques.  The opportunity and ability to see what’ was on the runway is definitely a plus. Aldo provided all the footwear, and Tess + Tricia accessories were a pleasant surprise.

It was interesting to see what the designers came up with, the show was new and different and much better than the spring Envision. No blasts from the past on the runway this time!

Knits by Mary Pranica kicked off the show, and, being especially passionate about that craft I was really excited to see the collection!

Cocoon by Elizabeth Geisler had a couple great coats, mostly along the oversized, blanket coat trend line.

Velvet moon was very boho, but very dark at the same time. The Black and white dress that you first see in the video was definitely a favorite of mine.

Kjurek and plaid went hand in hand. Why do I always think of coffee when I see Kjurek? ;) But that last oversized flannel coat is everything!

Cliche put a nice 90’s spin on their collection, one of the models walking down the runway could barely hold in her laughter.

Ellie Hottinger had amazing oversized pieces that if I had a choice, I’d wear every day, because comfort > style in my college book these days.

And then Samantha Rei’s IsabelleEtColette appeared on the runway. I have to admit, I’ve been following the creation of Samantha’s collection on Instagram and Facebook, and the whole idea of the Fox and the Sparrow, the post cards, the story telling. Samantha, you should write a book. For a designer to go practically broke, but finish a collection, you are amazing and inspiring.

Lindsey Hopkins played with neoprene and Japan inspired theme in her collection. Made me regret giving up my neoprene skirt!

Emily Trevor’s collection reminded me of a vintage Haut Coutire Dior dress that I recently saw in one of my classes. Even though it seemed heavy, it was incredibly well thought through.

George Moskal was someone whose collection I was really looking forward to seeing. He hasn’t shown any of his designs for a while, so him coming back was a needed change.

10017175.87

I immensely enjoyed Envision, seeing old friends and meeting new ones, or meeting people I’ve met on social media, and putting avatars to faces or faces to avatars.

As far as my look – it was all thrifted. After the show I knew I couldn’t make it back to the car in my wedges, so I took them off and walked barefoot through Loring Park, planning on using my shoes for self-defense, which, luckily for me was unnecessary.
