Family

9/11

I often looked at the clock

And time was never at standstill

Sometimes it was there to mock

Sometimes it was there to kill

But the numbers 9 11

They always stood out to me

I caught myself looking

Unconscious….

Today they buried my grandpa

And I wondered if that’s why

If numbers were playing a trick on me

Or if it’s just life?

Today I want you to go and give your family a call, give them a hug, tell them you love them, tell them you miss them… Don’t fight, don’t argue, because at the end of the day it’s not worth it. You all have a purpose and a reason to be here, and it’s to create beauty and love and find that glow!

I love you all, and I want to say a great big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all of you who have been sending prayers and loving kind thoughts my way. You mean so much to me. I have been crying on and off again today, over 9/11, over my grandfather, and not being able to be in Russia. But I have also been crying happy tears, that I have a loving husband, and a family here, who take care of me. And I know that the Universe is watching over me. I have been seeing signs everywhere, from a hand wave of a small child, to watching a ladybug make it’s way around my chair while listening to the wind chimes at the Sculpture Garden.

Love,

Zhenya

Today my husband’s grandparents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary! How awesome is that? 60 years with the same person! Sam also has his Grandpa’s wedding band, which is more meaningful to us than any words can describe!

So Happy 60th Wedding Anniversary Bob and Betty, and may the 5 o’clock gins continue for many many more years!

We love you,

Sam and Zhenya!

PS. The photo was taken on their wedding day (May 15, 1953), and is a curtesy of my mother in law!

Christmas Tag!

I was tagged to do this Christmas tag by Luchessa! Thank you, dear, for tagging me! Here we go:
images-2

1. Which  Holiday do you celebrate? Christmas, and then Russian Christmas (January 7th!), just because one Christmas is never enough! There was also a time in my life when I celebrated both Hanukkah and Christmas!

2. What are you doing for the holidays this year? Going to Wisconsin! Enough said!

3. What’s your favorite holiday drink? Anything caffeinated with peppermint in it, preferably from Starbucks ;)

4. Candy Cane or Gingerbread men? I was going to say neither, but definitely Gingerbread men as I think more about the question. They are easier to chew :)

5. What’s your favorite Holiday/Christmas song? At work – All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth!

But the one that really get’s me in the spirit of Christmas is – Oh Come all Ye Faithful

6. What’s the weirdest gift you’ve ever received? Someone once gave Sam and me a Christmas ornament that said “Our First Christmas 2010″, we got married in 2011, and the people who gave it to us came to our wedding! So I think it was a re-gift.

7. Have you ever made a snowman? Yes, many times! I think growing up in Russia it’s a winter MUST! I also made a miniature one last year for a girl I used to babysit!

8. What is your favorite winter fragrance? Definitely Miss Dior

Miss-Dior-300x300

9. What is at the top of your list this Christmas? Sewing books I posted about a couple days ago!

10. What is most important to you about holidays? Spending DRAMA-FREE time with my family!

I am going to tag all of you my lovely readers to answer all of the questions, and I’d really like to tag the following bloggers:

No Christmas Tree – No Problem

That’s how we think in this household. Last year we had this amazing cork board tree made out of push pins and yarn:

This year we were not going to have a tree all together, but then I was feeling overly creative and made this:

Yes, I made a Christmas tree out of TP rolls, and even painted it with glitter! So I guess DIY Christmas trees are a family tradition now!

Happy Tuesday!

MIA

My dear readers, I’m at a funeral in Wisconsin today, and that’s why there is no regular BeingZhenya post! Knowing me though – there will be one tomorrow, I’ll write it tonight before I go to bed! There is just so much I need to tell you, but for right now – here is a mind blowing question – Why would someone need 9 razors in their shower?

I’ll talk to you all soon!

artOPENer2012 or a day in life of a blogger

I don’t always blog, sometimes I forget, sometimes I have nothing to blog about, but when I have something to blog about, I usually don’t have time :) Murphy’s Law, I know!

Last week I was so excited to get 2 days in a row, and I am going to dedicate a post to each of those days! But we are going to take it one day at a time!

Sunday, May 6, we all went to 2012 artOPENer:

But before we got to see some of these amazing pieces, we had lunch at Culvers:

Talk about healthy, right?

My in-laws :)

They take turns smiling!

And Sam and I don’t :)

On the way to our first stop we passed by a mail box:

A prison:

And a cemetery:

Isn’t that pretty? Too much forest for me though :)

Finally we got there and that’s what we saw:

Oh wait…

Here we go!

Another cemetery, this time it’s for skateboards, hmmm…

Ah! Finally, some pottery!

Oh and the chair picture that I am sure everyone has already seen ;)

I found this weird guy in the garden too, I can’t remember his name though :/

And finally the actual studio and the artist at work!

This bowl took her less than 5 minutes!

Hey look, there is more!

Next stop – Hudson, Wisconsin!

And St. Croix Gallery:

I want this at my house! NOT

More stuff:

Up next – the Casanova Glass Studio!

I didn’t really take a lot of pictures there, most of the pieces were unfinished, but it was a cool experience nevertheless!

And last but not least (to be honest, my personal favorite) – Melissa’s Studio D’Art

Up up the steps…

Thank you for joining us on this fun trip, let me know which of these places you liked the most, and definitely let me know if you actually visited them!

xoxo,

Z

Easter the Hutsons’ way!

Yay for Easter and holidays and a day off :) Anyways I am going to start today’s post with my outfit of the day! The skirt was an amazing $12 find from Old Navy! The sheer blouse is something I got at Ragstock last week and the under shirt is something I’ve had for years! The shoes are pretty old too, I’ve had them since Russia!

I also made a traditional Russian Easter cake called “Kulich” – just some raisins and icing, and it turned out really good! I honestly didn’t expect that at all :) Hehe

Once we got to my in-laws house, Sandra surprised me with spicy Korean carrots (those are super popular in Russia!)

While waiting for dinner, we entertained ourselves by adding on to the diorama!

Can you guess what we’ve added? Heh!

And after dinner we were all enjoying the view and taking pictures. Sam and I don’t have a lot of pictures together, so we finally took one!

And I took one with my mother-in-law as well :) How gorgeous are we?

And finally, I just wanted to share some of the beautiful scenery with you, add on bird sounds and a little breeze and you get our Easter Day!

Happy Easter everyone!

xoxo

Never go MIA if you are a Fashion Blogger

Having abandoned my blog for over 3 days now, thought I do have a good excuse, I promise! I was extremely surprised to come back and see that I’ve been getting relatively good views (I mean they haven’t dropped :) )

Why I was MIA: I went up to Fargo, ND to help one of my best friends apartment hunt. She just got a new job there, and though I am sad to see her move away, I am really happy she is getting a fresh start! Congrats Kara!

I am also happy to report that all of the Christmas shopping is done! Sam and I ordered most of it on Amazon last night, and I shopped for Sam while in Fargo.

Another update, which is a really sad one is – looks like this year we are going to be having a Brown Christmas. It has also been raining all day today, I have just returned from running some errands, and even though my jacket is practically soaken wet, I was happy to have my rain boots around. I just didn’t think I was going to use them in the middle of January!

This post was originally supposed to come out on Sunday, but oh well…

Anyways, here is a post where I want you to talk back to me. I know there are over 300 of you subscribed to my blog, so please respond! Especially if you are into fashion and beauty as much as me :) We are going to talk about things you really love! And of course they have to be fashion related!

I’m going to begin! I really love my…

 And my…

 And finally,

What are some things that you really love? Don’t be shy, share!

xoxo,

ZhenyAH!

The Beauty of Spring. Happy Birthday Sandra!

It’s my future mother’s in law Birthday today, so I decided to dedicate this post to her, and to the day we got to spend together back in 2009, when we went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens!

Happy Birthday dear Sandra! Love you so much!

And I hope the rest of you enjoy the pictures of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens!

(You can also compare my hair from almost 2 years ago, and now! There are recent pictures of me in my other posts)

Something Old

I thought I’d share some old fam pictures with you today. They are nothing special, just a few black and white shots I threw together. Hope you enjoy them!

1. Camping, Soviet Style!

2. Glamour, Soviet Style. The bottom picture was taken in Red Square!

3. My mom and uncle when they were little. Check out my grandma’s outfits!

4. My grandparents when they were young. I wish I could say they were my favorite people in the world. Alas!

5. Wedding, Soviet Style. Now these are not my parents, but I thought it would be fun to post some pics of a married couple somewhere out in the field!

6. These are some pics of my mom when she was younger. Please keep the comments that I look like her to yourself. I hate being told that! Thank you!

7. Fun, Soviet Style. Murder, She Wrote. Collective Farming. Mexican Style New Years Party. The pic on the bottom left is one of my mom and our cat. We had him for over 15 years. I think I was in 2nd grade when he died. The pic on the bottom left is of my mom’s friend from High School. This is what the Soviet Uniform looked like! A lot of girls still wear it for their High School graduation. I didn’t wear it, it’s the ugliest thing in my opinion!

8. This pic was taken Jan.1 1984, about 2,5 years before I was born. I love my mom’s hat and mittens!
