SAIC 79th Annual Fashion Show

As you know during my last weekend’s trip to Chicago I was able to attend SAIC fashion show! It’s a show put on by sophomores, juniors and seniors of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and they do a wonderful job! I actually have something special coming up on the blog next week, SAIC related, so stay tuned, you don’t want to miss it!

And the show was amazing! We all got to sit in the front row, take pictures and videos with our new Samsung Galaxy cameras (See Disclosure) and chat about the designs in between! I think the most interesting thing for me (other than the clothes of course) was reading the names of the students, and the different scholarships they’ve received!

Now I am going to let pictures and videos do the talking!

I am wearing: Dress – Diesel (thrifted)//Jacket – The Limited (thrifted)

Boots – A.N.A (thrifted)//Clutch (not pictured) – ETRO (thrifted)

Necklaces – H&M, river pearls (Russia)

I hope you were able to experience some of the fashion show’s ups, because there were no downs πŸ˜‰

Disclosure:Β I am participating in the Verizon Style Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

Whats The Coolest Thing A Stranger has Ever Given You!?

Okay go!

Well let me share mine first, though it’s kind of my husband’s, but I was there too πŸ™‚ It was about a year ago, this time of year, or maybe last spring. Sam and I were walking home from work, when a complete stranger gave us a hand-made CD case ( get the inspiration for your future DIYs πŸ™‚ ) And the only thing he said was –

“Take it man, it’s good music, you’ll like it!”

I love how complete strangers make those assumptions about you!

Here is the close up on the clasp – I was going to take it off and turn into some piece of hipster jewelry, but since I’m keeping the case, I am keeping my hands off of it at the same time!

I’ve never heard of any of those bands before, but took time to research some of them. And even though not all of them are something I would listen to, I love the way it’s all made:

I picked some songs for you, randomly, if you know anything about these bands, feel free to fill me in!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone! And make sure to share your gifts from strangers stories in the comments below!

PS. Also why do you think this stranger guy was getting rid of the CD case?

Harry Potter! Really, Zhenya, really?

I mean, what? is Twilight next? My relationship with Harry Potter was never easy! I didn’t like him. Just like I didn’t like Titanic and Leo because of all the madness, I refused to watch it until my early twenties. Who can blame me? Meh, I don’t care.

Harry Potter to me was the same Titanic, with a different story line. I mean the madness and global obsession brought back the memories of being in 7th grade when all girls in Russia had buttons with Kate or Leo, and posters and T-shirts, and notebooks, sigh!

So when the first book came out I let it go by, same with 2nd, 3rd, etc. Until in 2007, when I came to the States for the second time my friends took me out to a movie on my Birthday, and ironically it was HP (which needless to say always reminds me of Hewlett Packard, anyone else out there?). I think it was the 5th one. I also remember one of my friends giving me a summary of everything that happened before – that took her about 10 minutes or so! πŸ™‚

Summer 0f 2007 was also the year the last HP book came out! And I remember borrowing it from a friend, and reading through the last few pages. Yes, I do that! Of course I didn’t understand much, and the whole concept of Harry dies but he lives, was confusing to me. I mean what was he, some sort of Jesus? Because Jesus is the only person I know who did that, and I am proud of him and he is no wizard, he is a God! Can’t beat that JK Rowling, can you?

To everyone’s surprise, and my own astonishment, I have started reading HP books again. I had them on my Nook for forever. And after finding myself in a rather stressful situation with my visa and skin condition, I was in an extreme need for an easy read! So Harry Potter came to mind, everyone is obsessed with the latest movie now anyways.

So that’s what I’ll be reading on the plane! Aren’t you proud of me?

I do have to confess, back in ’07 I did start reading HP series, but I think I only went through the first 3 books, and then I had to leave back to Russia πŸ™‚ lol

Wish me luck this time around too all you Harry Potter fans out there πŸ™‚

God of Love from NYU

His name is Luke Matheny, he won the Oscar on Sunday for the best Live Action Short Film (It’s listed as Short Film (Live Action) on the Oscars website. And if you still don’t know who I am talking about, he is the guy with the ‘fro who said he should’ve gotten a haircut before the ceremony!

He has this silliness and awkwardness about himself that makes him very appealing to Β other people, at least to me, I would’ve totally wanted to be friends with Luke! And he definitely doesn’t look 34.

Now about the movie. The love triangle story told the new way. He loves her, she loves someone else. Thank God, that someone else is not a woman, but then they would be lesbians and we all know how well it would’ve fit with the Oscars this year. Even Ann Hathaway said so. But we didn’t need any drama here, and luckily for me and other viewers there was no Annette Bening asking Julianne Moore if she was straight now, or what?

Before I go any further, let me just tell you – I love that movie, it’s definitely something that I can handle, if it wasn’t a short film, I would’ve probably had an emotional breakdown after the first 5 minutes. And it’s about NYC. Everything about NYC is great, except for the rats, the water bugs, and Renata Kadoe who lives on the Upper West Side.

But back to the movie. The main character, Luke Matheny aka Ray, is looking for a solution to his love triangle. And gets a hold of a box of Love Darts 3000. To all you Harry Potter fans, I think those darts would kill Nimbus’ 2000 ass, because those Love Darts could surely make Lord Voldemort love Harry as his own child for the rest of his life.

So as the character walks along Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg with two ladies hanging off of each arm after using the darts on them, proving the narrator wrong about not being able to control who you fall in love with and who falls in love with you, the Dr.Phil in me starts waking up. And look, the next scene of the trailer – Ray surrounded with 9 women, one wearing a burka, one being a marathon runner (Run for your life from that guy, honey!), one being asian, one flipping through the pages of some fashion magazine, and one combing through Ray’s hair (a task that I wouldn’t advice anyone to do), which makes you think of some perverted fantasy of his of an orgy (well done on taking care of the diversity issue though!), but he is pouring his heart out to those women, saying how much he loves Kelly. And did I tell you the love triangle was among all the band members? And Fozzie will never return Kelly’s affection because he is a loyal friend to Ray? Of course there is destiny, and talks about love, and a romantic scene with the Statue of Liberty in the background! This is when we all say: “Yay!” and start hysterically clapping our hands! Please, oh please!

But the movie is more about being able to control who you love, though think of it, if you could put love under control, would it still be love?
