Happy Holidays! Some of you may know that this year Sam and I finally got our first real Christmas tree! And of course I got to decorate it with all the thrifted ornaments and jingle bells I could find!

FRIENDSGIVING #MyKindOfHoliday

Having now permanently lived in the States for over two years, I can definitely say that this is my favorite time of year! October brings beautiful colors into our yards, Halloween candy and treats are followed by November and Thanksgiving, and then, Christmas is right around the corner.

This morning I was browsing Pinterest for holiday decor and DIY ideas, and have fallen in love with the holidays even more. This year I have a whole house to decorate! And Target has great decor and entertainment ideas.

And how can I forget about the holiday fashion? Check out these amazing styling options:

Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Target.

I especially love the fur!

With these accessories you will be the IT girl of every party!

One thing about being an immigrant is one can often be alone during the holidays. So this year I am planning on celebrating something called Friendsgiving, inviting a few friends over, sharing the laughs, the joys of friendship, and of course the drinks!

Would you come to my party?

Happy Friday,

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Target. But, as always, the holiday picks, ideas and opinions are all my own.

DIY Instagram Inspirational Coasters via Shutterfly

2013-09-18 06.19.23

Since we’ve moved to our new house, I’ve been much much more furniture conscious. Meaning I am done leaving ring marks everywhere :) Yes, I was one of those people, who didn’t take care of her nice (even though most of the time freecycled or gifted) furniture. And I am ashamed of it.

So when I saw that Shutterfly offered personalized coasters for only $20, I knew I was in!

I had several ideas as to what put on them, from all the places Sam and I have been to, to maps, to quotes… But I finally decided to go with my Instagram photos that I have been lately editing with a new app called Rhonna.

It was hard to pick out 4 images, but I went with these:

And that’s how my coasters turned out:

Don’t you just love them?

Ironically enough this is my second coaster DIY this year, you can read about the first one here.

What have you been making lately?

Feathers Unruffled {A Home Decor Post}

I don’t normally post about home decor, unless it’s DIY, but this time I just wanted to share how something random, bought on a whim,, transformed my living room and made that one small part of it (aka my console table) complete.

1175093_10153247867590604_1927752555_n

I got these feathers a week ago at the Minnesota State Fair. They were only a $1 each at the International Bazaar (which does by the way have a Russian booth!) and I couldn’t simply pass by.

So after spending all afternoon wandering around the Fair Grounds with these feathers sticking out, I was amazed they actually made it home that night.

To be honest, I wasn’t going to put them in a vase. I did have a different spot for them in mind, but they never made it there!

Instead they were dropped off on the console table that I freecycled a couple years ago, next to these two frames, one being a cross stitch by my dear friend Tamara, reminding me where, when and who I married ;) And the other is a picture version of the latter.

Once I sat down and actually looked over where the feathers were, I knew that it’s where they belonged.

So then the vase hunting began. From Target to TJ Maxx, to Marshall’s to finally – BINGO – a thrift store (this time it was Salvation Army) during a Labor Day sale, this beauty ended up costing me only $3.50 plus tax!

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner thought I…

Now to find the lamps…

Xx,

Z

PS. Check out these salt and pepper shakers Sam’s friend Blake brought me from England:

One of them is a London Guard and the other is The British Gentleman! Can you guess which one is which? LOL

One Flew Over Flyover Press

slideshow_3

Today I want to introduce Flyover Press! It’s an online store of Midwest inspired apparel and design items! Nick’s (the creator of Flyover Press and blogger at Great Lakes Prep) love for all things Midwest is so clearly seen through every single item listed in the store!

“Located in southwest Michigan underneath planes venturing cross country, Flyover Press seeks to end the coastal bias that leaves the Midwest so often ignored. By crafting made in the USA apparel and posters inspired by the people, places and traditions of America’s Heartland, Flyover Press serves as a way for Midwesterners to display their pride to the rest of the country.

We’re committed to three things, high quality American-made products, excellent customer service and providing products for the people of the regions of this country that are too often ignored. And having fun while we do it. Some of our best ideas are hatched over a couple beers with old friends. So make that four things.

We also love the Midwest and try to support it in as many ways as possible. That’s why we try to produce as many of our products in the Midwest as we can. Our shirts are printed in Indianapolis and while our posters are printed in Connecticut, they’re done by a couple who broke into the business in Chicago. As we add more products to the line we’ll continue trying to seek out Midwest sources. It might not be the least expensive way of doing things but it’s how we believe in doing business.

And that’s why we give back 3% of profits to Midwest-based non-profits. We want to support the area that raised us and we want to spread the love. That’s why we don’t have just one organization we support, but several. While we have a few organizations already selected, we’re always open to learning about the organizations you love”

How amazing is that? I thought I’d share some of my favorite items from the store with you:

North Star State Print

Patriotic Midwest Tank (love the corn and the wheat logo!)

Navy Blue Patriotic Tank Product Shot

I know they are just starting, so they need all the love and support, especially from us, the midwesterners, so spread the word!

Henna, now that’s a first!

As some of you may know I went up north to a friend’s cabin last weekend. But before I went I tried something I’ve never tried before – henna! Yes, I am 27 and have never tried henna tattoos before! I used to put henna in my hair back when I lived in Russia though! It’s a very good strengthening treatment for your hair!

So when one of my aids offered to stay after work and do it, I gladly entrusted myself into the hands of a 17 year old!

I got a sun inspired ornament on my left wrist and a peacock on my right calf

2013-08-01 18.29.151

I thought Andrea did an absolutely marvelous job and I am so grateful she offered to do it after work and spend time hanging out with me, my husband, and a few of our other co-workers! It was a fun night!

I also found out what was in the henna mix, and why it smelt so good! I kept smelling my wrist for the rest of the day, even when we went to Target ;)

Plus I also learned how to take care of henna:

Vintage Leslie Fay dress refashion (PSST! What I really wore for the 4th of July!)

After we moved, I have come to realize how much vintage clothing I actually have. Unfortunately I couldn’t wear some of it, because it needed to be altered or refashioned! So I decided to start with this vintage Leslie Fay dress:

20130705-083611.jpg
I got it at Savers last fall, and never wore it because of the neckline, or should I say the lack of it :) So, that collar was the first thing to go:

20130705-083735.jpg

20130705-083837.jpg
Then I cut a good chunk off the bottom, lets be honest, I still got some killer leg to show ;)

20130705-083959.jpg
I hemmed the raw edges using some vintage navy colored trim that I had, making this dress perfect for the 4th of July!

DIY Friday: Denim Rug

I saw an idea for a DIY denim rug a couple weeks ago! And I knew it was going to be perfect for me, because I had so many freecycled pairs of jeans, that I knew were waiting for their moment! And it finally came! Unfortunately it didn’t use up as many pairs, as I was hoping (only 1 1/2 or 3 pant legs :) )

Here is what you are going to need:

- Old jeans

- Scissors

- Fabric

- Sewing Machine

Then simply follow my easy instructions and enjoy!

I hope this was nice and easy, let me know how your rug turns out!

Have a great weekend everyone ;)
