I finally came around to making a T-shirt for my blog, and then wore it to take pictures outside.

The shirt is still not done, I am planning on adding sequins or beads to the letters to outline them, but it’s a start!

A lot has happened in the past couple of days, and I have more projects going on than time on my hands, but like I tweeted yesterday, I am extremely grateful for what I do as a blogger, and for those who take me seriously!

At the end of the day it’s all about sitting down and enjoying the sunset.

Styling a pencil skirt isn’t complicated at all, especially when you have an amazing pair of booties.

Sipping my Tuesday morning coffee, blogging, thinking about all the changes that are about to take over my life.

As ready as I am ever going to be. Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely excited to go to the U, but I am also nervous. It’s going to be first day of school for me, when I thought I was done with school 6 years ago.  Everyone has been so supportive though, and Sam, he is amazing. He has helped out so much, he is so proud of me. But for the first time in many years I am not going to work. My blog and social media will be my only source of income, so if you see a sponsored post here and there, please don’t judge. If you don’t see a post from me for a few days, or maybe a week, please don’t judge. Find me on social media, tell me you miss me, I will always reply.

I have never wanted to be a professional full-time blogger, I always wanted a career.

I keep reminding myself – I am ready, I am ready, I am fine…

Macy’s Glamorama 2014

macys-glamorama-2014

The hottest, sexiest, most fun show of the year. I said it and I am not afraid to repeat it. I cut my vacation short for Glamorama, and I don’t regret it one bit. This is more than a fashion show, it is a performance, a theatrical act mixed in with concert craze. It’s loud and moving, gets you on your feet and dancing (Jason Derulo will do it to anyone), made me excited for fall fashions.

Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama raises money to support children’s cancer research; to improving the health, well-being and education of children; and to help with HIV/AIDS services, prevention and research. This event has taken fashion to the highest level of design, making the event the hottest ticket in town.

I got to meet six year old Jack Serakos, from Andover, MN. At just three months old, Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumor, known as optic pathway glioma, positioned between his eye and brain. To treat the cancer, Jack has endured seven chemotherapy sessions throughout all but one year of his life. Now six years old, Jack will be entering kindergarten in the fall. While the tumor has impaired Jack’s sight, his vision remains very functional and the goal is to preserve what vision he has left as well as reduce future side effects. With his current treatment, his tumor has remained stable for the past 18 months. Despite enduring weekly chemotherapy infusions at the hospital, Jack remains joyful in playing with his two younger brothers Tommy and Will every chance he gets as well as riding his bike and being outside.

How to Dress like a Rock Star:

“The only rule about dressing like a rock star is that there are no rules other than be yourself and have fun,” states Josh Saterman, Macy’s Vice President and Millennial Fashion Director. Here are a few more rock star style and fashion tips provided by Josh to bring out your inner rock star.

  • Slip on sneakers for a more casual look and buckled peep-toe heeled booties for a night on the town.
  • Belts that give accent to your waist whether you like lower rise or high-waisted skinny jeans.
  • A thick, chunky belt with your tunic knit top is always a safe bet if you’ve moved into soft pants and ponte leggings.
  • Stacked bracelets with new materials like wood, shiny metals in gold and shades of pinks, as well as wires and other new material give that special and unique spin.
  • Two proportions for jackets: both moto and bomber silhouette shapes – The first is slightly cropped above the waistline. The second slightly oversized and athletic-inspired below the waistline. Rock it out with these shapes based on your bottom half. The ponte legging and skinny pant or jean can play well with the shape of your top and jacket.
  • Rock stars make awesome patriots through evolved graphic tees, which speak to the cultural whimsy as well as art and music influence happening in the world today. This alone empowers a rock star to express their individualistic expression of the world and the way they feel about its current state. Graphic tees paired back well with a moto or bomber jacket and soft pants or ponte leggings. Throw on some amazing peep toe heel booties or slip on sneaks and you’re ready for a night on the town.

Individuality, customization and being yourself all ring true in 2014.

I hope you enjoyed the photos and maybe I’ll see you in Chicago ;)

My friend Jameson of Lessons with Coffee is having a garage sale this weekend. It’s absolutely amazing! shopped it last night and had a blast. Honestly this post wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for that garage sale.

I bought the metallic Ann Taylor skirt, and the vintage pink top I am wearing in the first look there (among other things  of course!)

I’ve also noticed the tendency to post two looks on Thrift Style Thursdays. It might be a coincidence, but let me know if you like it, and I’ll keep styling one item in different ways.

Also, exciting news Thrift Style Thursday now has it’s own Facebook page! So join in!

Happy weekend early everyone! I am off to Colorado tomorrow! Yay road trip!

Summer makes me want to wake up early and stay up late. Summer makes me not want to go to work. Summer is when I wake up and after my morning routine of oil pulling and cup of coffee I sit down and start looking for inspiration. Sometimes it’s in the sun I see rising through the trees on Rhode Island avenue. Sometimes it’s in my herb garden that I have managed to keep alive. Sometimes summer is in the morning breeze and I need a blanket to cover my legs, and a husband’s sweatshirt to wear, because it’s still chilly. Summer flows into me, and I get dressed and get ready for the day. Tops, and tanks, and accessories, everything is there, and everything expresses who I am.

Weekly Wear June 21

Having totally skipped on weekly wear last week (we were on our way to Milwaukee), I am trying to redeem myself today. I love showing off what I wore on a daily/weekly basis. It not only  provides you with a snippet of what I look like in my daily life, but gives a round up of sorts. So here is what I’ve been wearing this week:

Monday: The dress I got from Katelyn at the Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar

Tuesday: Moddeals cut off neon shorts, fringe shoes and floral top

neon-cut-offs-floral-top

Wednesday: Seahorse dress

Thursday: I had a really cute look for you, but didn’t change when I started cooking at home, and got the button down all greasy! Keeping my fingers crossed I can still get it out. If you know any good ways of getting oil stains out, do tell!

Friday: Moddeals camp pants (the worst pants ever!), Land’s End top and three necklaces. You can come take layering lessons from me now ;)

I am also switching up my hair care for the summer. I have a hair appointment today at 10 am for another balayage, and want my hair to be as healthy as it can. So I am going with Cleansing Conditioner. This was the only one I could find at Target last night that was for my hair type. It’s also under $5! So win! I’ll let you know how it works, and whether I like it over the traditional shampoo/conditioner combo.

And finally, on the way home last night,

So here you have it! My week! I also only have about 6 weeks left at my current job, and then college, here I come! I am super excited!

Have a great weekend!

In Shorts

neon-shorts denim-shorts

Shorts are one of those articles of clothing that can make you look 16 again. I don’t know if you do, but sometimes I want to turn back time. And I guess I am in these neon frayed blue shortsI got from Moddeals for only $10. I am yet to wear them out in public though. So far it’s been home and garden only.

Another thing I want to mention – bicycle shorts. Apparently a lot of girls wear them under dresses and even shorts here in Minnesota, and more than half the time they aren’t even riding a bike. I understand the idea behind it, but don’t you sweat even more? Do you wear shorts under your dresses? I know I can’t, otherwise I am going to start treating my dress like a top. And when I bike? I’d rather bring a change of clothes. Yes, I started biking to work this week.

Outfit details: Shorts Moddeals.com – $10, Shoes Moddeals.com – $10, Top American Rag Macy’s, White Crossbody – vintage, Sam’s old watch.

Polka Dot Dress

red-white-polka-dot-dress eshakti-review retro-polka-dot-dress polka-dot-dress

When I love Lucy meets Zooey Deschanel and designs something they would both wear in real life… That’s how I feel in this polka dot dress. It doesn’t need much styling, as it speaks for itself. I paired this red and white dress with nude heels from target, a bulky gold chain necklace (thrifted) and my Marc Jacobs watch.

Spinning and Twirling in this polka dot dress was a lot of fun yesterday. I have been looking for a dress like this for the past few months, and when I couldn’t find anything at the thrift stores, I took a chance and accepted the offer from eShakti to try one of their products. The dress is custom made in India, and when I was choosing it, I could not only select my size, but also the length of hem, type of collar cut, and whether I wanted any of the embellishments removed. The dress could’ve come with a white stripe going a little above the hem line.

I was really hoping this would be my summer weddings go-to dress, but I am not so sure anymore. The idea behind eShakti is great – they position themselves, as the only online women’s fashion apparel company offering size 0-36W & Custom clothing. But sadly, the quality of the dress is not that high. Of course it’s better than a lot of Chinese websites that sent me items in the past, but

- the cotton on the dress is not very thick,

- the polka dot pattern is printed on top of the fabric, not a part of the fabric (I am not sure what will happen to the dress in the wash)

– it also ripped right around the zipper as I was taking it off, fortunately enough I know how to fix it, but what if I didn’t?

– it’s pricey (The dress would’ve cost me $80)

The great things about the dress are

– the style, and the cut is vintage inspired, what I absolutely love,

– it has pockets,

– I got to customize it for my body type

All of the eShakti products ship from India, so it was fun to receive a DHL from half-way around the world.

At the end of the day I don’t know if I would shop there for myself. There are so many places to do it these days. Plus I am now being EXTREMELY money cautious with me going back to college in September!

Have you ever shopped eShakti? I know they work with a lot of bloggers, so spill your beans!

Vintage Navy

hot-to-style-vintage-dress

I am wearing: Vintage navy dress – VintageSwank, Sperry’s Top Siders – TJ Maxx, Neon yellow belt – Target, Bulky chain necklace – thrifted

A vintage item often tells its’ own story. You don’t make the outfit. The outfit makes you. We were talking about what fashion means to us yesterday with some girlfriends on Twitter, and to me,

Fashion is self-expression in its’ truest form

But it’s a little different when it comes to when I wear vintage. These items have a story to tell, these items lived before me, and some of them were made long before I was born. And that’s why I respect vintage, cherish and treasure them.

This navy dress is structured, and feels more like a suit when I wear it. But it made me feel real, feminine and unique.

I am so so happy it’s Friday! I had a 3 day work week, but, man, am I exhausted! I hope you all spend time with your family and get a chance to relax! Stop by tomorrow to join the weekly wear link up and see my Monday-Friday outfits!

Happy Saturday, and welcome to my new weekly wear series. Every Saturday morning I will be here, showing you what I wore that week. Showing you, how my daily style changes throughout weeks, months, seasons. This will also be a link up, a chance for you to show some of your weekly outfits. Who is excited?

Apparently this week started on Tuesday, since I completely forgot to photograph the Monday outfit. Plus I wanted to make it interesting and not have the same background or pose. Thursday look was also featured in this post. But I think Friday one is my favorite. I have officially mastered layering.

I guess the theme for this week’s Weekly Wear is I thrifted it, I wore it. The Madewell top and Tommy Hilfiger jacket were thrifted on Tuesday. The black jeans from Friday look and Striped top from Thursday were my steals at the $1 Earth Day sale at Buffalo Exchange. The jeans are actually high waisted, and I promise to style them with a crop top sometime soon! I was ecstatic when I fit into them on Friday morning. It literally made my day.
