Aren’t You a Doll Face?

doll-face-beauty-brand

doll-face-skincare

I have started using a new skincare brand called Doll Face about a week and a half ago, and wanted to share some info, and definitely my opinion with you.

A little history first, Doll Face was born in the shadow of the famed Hollywood sign by a team of visionary beauty “creationists” who have crafted a naturally potent, clean skincare brand with modern ethos inspired by the glamour and style of retro Hollywood.

Doll Face combines the best of science and nature, with super-effective blends of power-packed active ingredients that effectively cleanse, hydrate, perfect, refine and brighten the skin.

Some of the Doll Face clever ingredient are: Buriti Fruit Oil, Super Berry Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Berry, Willow Bark Extract, etc.

All of the products are never formulated with paragons, mineral oil, PABA, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Paraffin, DEA, Triclosan, Petrolatum, animal-derived ingredients or harmful dyes.

I got to try Intensive Age Defend cream, and a Balancing Tonic. Let’s talk about those.

doll-face-intensive-age-defense-cream

The Intensive Age Defense Cream helps visibly reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, is suitable for all skin types, and comes in a beautifully packaged 2 oz packaging. Retails for $58.

This is a gel-cream, and it was a little hard to get used to it at first, since I haven’t used one in a while. I definitely like it though, because I feel like with this product a little goes a long way! And I love that. I have tried using it twice a day, but so far I like it as my night treatment the best, because as you may have guessed it, it doesn’t contain SPF. I also noticed that it doesn’t mix well with other products, and by mixing, I mean layering. Or when worn by itself (on my day off, when I am not wearing makeup), it often gathers up and peels off of my skin. I am going to experiment more with what I use it with, but so far, I am giving it 3 out of 5 stars.

doll-face-balancing-tonic

Balancing tonic purifies pores and brightens dull skin, it’s suitable for normal-to-oily skin and comes in an 8 oz packaging. Retails for $24.

This product, in my opinion is suitable for even combination skin, and that’s what I have. I am definitely noticing my skin brighten after I use it, though sometimes I end up using extra powder to cover up the shine, as it starts looking too oily for my liking. The product smells great, and the packaging is definitely appealing. I really enjoy having it in my bathroom. I am a huge fan of toners and such, so this product fits right in! I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall my experience with Doll Face was nothing but pleasant. There were no breakouts, no allergic reactions. Just a new addition to my skincare routine! (Aren’t those the best?)

Have you ever tried Doll Face? What do you think? What kind of skin care products do you use in your daily routine?

Don’t forget that Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar is tomorrow, Saturday, June 14. I hope to see you there! I’ll be bringing a lot of vintage and hand-made items for you!

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster Review

2014-05-05 22.33.26 2014-05-05 22.34.57 2014-05-05 22.36.42

Knowing me, you probably have already figured out that I can’t live without serums and different types of skin boosters. Anything that helps me improve my skin, is a must-have, must-try or at least a must-see. So when I received Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster from iFabbo, I was more than excited to try it out. Plus I was running out of the serum I’ve been using, and this one became a perfect substitute.

So what is Dermalogica skin hydrating booster? It’s a super hydrating fluid that intensely moisturizes thirsty skin as it smoothes and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It’s water-based and non-greasy, plus contains Hyaluronic Acid, which holds 1000 times its weight in water for powerful hydration.

Other key ingredients include Panthenol, Glycolipids, and Algae Extract to help skin repair and restore moisture balance. There are no artificial colors and fragrances in Dermalogica products.

To use, I simply squeeze a little bit of product on my hand, and work into my skin. I only use it at night, before bed, and put my favorite night time moisturizer on top. You can mix this Skin Hydrating Booster with your favorite moisturizer to use during the day. But I always feel like my skin rests and restores at night. If I notice it becoming dry throughout the day, I will definitely start using this product in the AM as well.

The product is expensive, $56 for 1 oz. Though almost all high end serums with Hyaluronic Acid are in that price range, and that’s not surprising, because the product really works. After only a couple of times using it, I noticed my skin feeling softer, glowing, and firm. I am in absolute awe with this serum and what Dermalogica did once again – created another wonderful product to help us fight aging.

Pros:

– Perfect for my T-zoned skin and, from the other reviews I read, oily skin.

– Absorbs quickly.

– Hydrates and moisturizes.

– Doesn’t cause breakouts on my type of skin.

– Perfect addition to my night time beauty routine.

– Amazing ingredients.

Cons:

– Expensive! Ouch!

– Value/Money ratio seems too low. I have a feeling I am going to go through this 1 oz container of product in less than a month.

In the end of the day I love this stuff and the wonderful things it does for my skin. Have you tried the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster? What did you think? What serums (if any) do you use?

Happy Tuesday! I am off to another photo shoot today! Can’t wait to share an exciting new project and a local fashion artist with you soon!

Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

Today’s post is about another Hydroxatone product that surprised me in a good way. It’s their AM/PM anti-wrinkle complex (#AntiWrinkleSPF)  suitable for day and night use. It’s supposed to make you look and feel younger. Yes, I am 27 and am planning on staying Forever 21 😉

2013-08-25 18.09.35

Once again the sample came in a nice large size, 1 oz. I love the packaging and the little extra cover between the jar and the lid is a nice classy bonus!

The product contains:

Hyaluronic Acid – incredible ability to retain moisture in the skin which results in increased smoothness, softness and decrease of facial wrinkles.

Matrixyl3000 – Helps skin to promote natural levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid and fibronectin.

Argireline – Anti-aging peptide specifically designed to provide fast results.

SPF 15 – to help protect the skin against the sun’s harmful rays!

2013-08-25 18.10.00

My first concern though was why did they make this 2 in 1 product, instead of making 2 separate ones. They would’ve made more sales this way if you ask me (at least that’s how Clinique worked).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who is afraid to put SPF containing moisturizer on at night, but I do cringe a little.

You will smell the sunscreen when applying the product. Nothing wrong with that.

The moisturizer itself does the job quiet well. My skin is a little picky though and unfortunately this doesn’t layer well with their BB. Or I have to wait and let the moisturizer sit for 10 minutes or so.

2013-08-25 18.10.09

I do like the texture, the fact that it absorbs quickly and of course that the company itself is in New Jersey 😉

2013-08-25 18.10.32

Once again though, it is pricey, but you might be able to catch it on HauteLook.com or other flash sale sites!

So there you have it! A great moisturizer out there for you to try.

Have a great night,
Z

Here it is you guys! Week 3 updates!

The numbers in parenthesis indicate difference from the previous week!)

Widest part of thigh 21″ (-0.5″)
Above knee 14″ (-1″)
Below knee 13″ (-0)
Widest part of calf 13.5″ (+0.5)

As you can see there is some progress out there 🙂 And I am definitely noticing a difference in my thighs. Yay! Working towards defining that gap between my thighs (yes, I’m one of those girls!)

Another thing that I’ve started is Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis program.

Screen-shot-2011-03-11-at-11.57.03-AM
I did both cardio and a workout in my proskins last week and I’m not going to do it anymore. Sorry for the next piece of TMI but I sweat a lot, so I’ll keep wearing my leggings to bed, because that still gives the result.
I have been cheating for the past few days though and only doing the 30 minute workout skipping the cardio.

Plus everyone at work seems to be on the Paleo diet, so I’ve been cutting down my bread intake as well.
So here you have it! I spilt all my beans! Now you spill yours 😉
Have a great weekend,

My Easy Summer Go-To Makeup Routine

Yes, I do realize summer is almost over, but I felt compelled sharing this with you, because I realize that there are maybe some, who don’t even use makeup, and maybe it will inspire you!

As you know, I’ve been using a BB Cream instead of a foundation, and am planning on doing so through the fall (depending on how my skin acts, because that can be unpredictable). More about my new favorite BB here!

2013-08-18 12.06.39

Then I apply brow pencil. I used to be a huge advocate for using eye shadow as a brow filler, but have lately shifted away from it! Why bother finding the right color (it’s hard to do even in the professional lines) in the eye shadow, if they make so many pencils and the choice is definitely easier there!

2013-08-18 12.06.53

I also comb through my brows with a brush afterwards. Now some people choose to do it beforehand, but I really don’t have that much brows going on, so that’s how I do it.

2013-08-18 12.07.28

Remember that eyebrows are a frame for the face, and well… because of this too…

MjAxMy0yZDQ4YzNiZDE4OGY0N2E0

Next I move on to mascara. I am currently using Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator, and do highly recommend it, if you are going after length as opposed to volume!

2013-08-18 12.07.45

Then I top it all with a powder. I just bought a new Covergirl Professional loose powder. We’ll see what it’s about. In the picture I am using pressed powder by Faberlic (which by now has broken into many many pieces and is a pain in my know what to apply! Hence the Covergirl)

2013-08-18 12.10.16

One of my new favorite products is the Dandelion blush by Benefit! I will stand by it no matter what! Try it too, you’ll love this blush. And it is one of the few product exceptions when I am not using my own brush to apply it, but the one that it came with!

2013-08-18 12.10.35

And finally I add a little lipstick. I have a Long Last Lipstick from Clinique in All Heart, and even though it’s a gorgeous color, I think it’s too dark for the summer, so I simply dab it and spread it out with my finger.

2013-08-18 12.11.40

2013-08-18 12.11.29

And that’s it! This is how I do my makeup these days! And trust me it takes way less time, than it took me to write this post 😉

Zhenya

{Bare Love Hair} Luxury Hair Fuel Review

Hair is every woman’s pride and joy! And today I’m going to share with you one of my newly discovered secrets. A product by Bare Love Hair – Luxury Hair Fuel.

2013-08-19 09.50.02

Luxury Hair Fuel is hair and scalp treatment that is supposed to help rid hair of dullness and dryness and if used on the scalp, it prevents flaking and dryness.
There are two different ways you can use this product:
– applying it to towel dry hair prior to styling,
– massaging it into the scalp prior to shampooing.
And all you need is one pump!
Since my hair has been rather dry this summer, due to spending a lot of time outside in the sun, I thought this was a perfect product for me to try!
Surprisingly, one pump is enough, and two is too much! Trust me, you don’t want to overdo it, even if you have long hair, you’ll end up with greasy locks and that never looks attractive.
The good:
– it’s an all-natural blend of skin-compatible oils,
– it moisturizers and adds shine,
– smells beautifully,
– helps control frizz and defines hair’s natural curl
– it’s made with a unique OlioLove Technology that is exclusive to the brand.
The bad:
– it’s pricey $28 for 1 oz,
– the pump spits at you when you are trying to get the product out and squirts all over the place, which leads to product waste,
– your hair will look greasy if you do two or more pumps.

Stay tuned for more “hair” posts to come!

1.5 oz of Hydroxatone Anti-Aging BB Cream

2013-08-18 12.20.43

Hello and welcome to the Beauty Week on Being Zhenya! Today I am going review a BB cream by Hydroxatone (#BetterBB), which arrived in my mail box a couple of weeks ago! See, I’ve recently joined iFabbo and this was one of the first products I “bought”!

2013-08-18 12.04.54

I don’t think you know, but I’m the biggest BB Cream fanatic out there! I don’t use foundations anymore. There is no point, especially during the summer when it’s so hot and I’m outside a lot whether for work, gardening or sailing!

So let’s talk this BB!

The manufacturer claims that it:

– Shields the skin with powerful broad spectrum SPF 40,

– Protects from the elements and oxidative stress with potent antioxidants,

– Soothes and nourishes with natural anti-irritants and vitamins,

– Evens out skin tone and brightens dullness and discoloration with active Vitamin C and advanced encapsulated peptide,

– Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and overall skin aging, as it firms and lifts, making skin instantly look flawless and more youthful!

And here is what I have to say:

First of all it came in a bigger size than what the website said! More product for me said I and put it right on my dresser!
Second, the SPF factor in this BB is 40! How awesome is that? We need all the sun protection we can get these days, especially me, since I am in my late 20’s.
Third, the tone matched my skin perfectly (I got Medium shade), but it did go on quiet thick and the color was lighter than after I blended it in!

2013-08-18 12.05.10

2013-08-18 12.05.32

2013-08-18 12.06.39
Fourth, the retail value of this was almost $50, and I got it free, nothing beats that, does it?
Fifth, it is lightly scented, and I know to some of you that may be a downside, but I actually like it!
Now let’s talk application:
In spite of the fact that it’s a cream, I always wear a moisturizer underneath. I spread my BB with fingertips and use a powder finish on top. Plus add blush. I haven’t been using bronzer as much this summer, because I’ve been getting so tan.

Stay tuned for my Go-to Summer (hot weather) Make-up Tutorial later this week!

Have a great Sunday!

Henna, now that’s a first!

As some of you may know I went up north to a friend’s cabin last weekend. But before I went I tried something I’ve never tried before – henna! Yes, I am 27 and have never tried henna tattoos before! I used to put henna in my hair back when I lived in Russia though! It’s a very good strengthening treatment for your hair!

So when one of my aids offered to stay after work and do it, I gladly entrusted myself into the hands of a 17 year old!

2013-08-01 18.28.431

I got a sun inspired ornament on my left wrist and a peacock on my right calf

2013-08-01 18.29.151

I thought Andrea did an absolutely marvelous job and I am so grateful she offered to do it after work and spend time hanging out with me, my husband, and a few of our other co-workers! It was a fun night!

I also found out what was in the henna mix, and why it smelt so good! I kept smelling my wrist for the rest of the day, even when we went to Target 😉

2013-08-01 18.44.15

Plus I also learned how to take care of henna:

It’s good to be friends with teenagers these days, isn’t it?!

Have you done/tried anything new and exciting lately?

Beauty on a Dime {Guest Post}

photo (3) Today’s Beauty post is by Michelle from Skana Spa in Upstate New York. She is here to share tips and tricks of her trade! Enjoy!

No matter how busy of a schedule you may have you should always find time for yourself. Every woman loves to get away to the spa for a day of beauty and relaxation but that isn’t always an option. However there are alternatives, with a couple ingredients you probably have in your house you can make yourself a rejuvenating body scrub.

Now And Then the best remedies are those that are the least expected. In the case of skin, one of the most efficient means for cleaning pores is more dirt. Minerals picked up from quarries. Volcanic ash, and sea beds around the globe, cosmetic clay holds a multitude of minerals that nourish the skin and are naturally absorbent qualities help draw out debris, excess oils, remove dead skin cells and even contagions from pores. Applied once a week, a clay mask results in a soft, supple, genuinely clean skin texture.

Mixing cosmetic clay powder with cold, filtered tap water is the easiest method to make a mask, but there can be additional perks by taking advantage of other liquids. Cool green tea produces an additional antioxidant boost that may help slow down the development of fine lines. To soothe irritated or dry skin, try combining the clay with cold milk or heavy cream.

To start off, add one tablespoonful of tap water, green tea, or milk to a small container. Continue to add tablespoons of fine cosmetic clay powder to the liquid mixing to prevent clumps. The resulting paste should be smooth; if it is too thick or runny, add a couple of drops of tap water or a little extra clay to reach the desired texture.

mask-mixed-1024x680

Cleanse skin thoroughly with facial cleanser and warm water and gently pat skin dry.

Place a warm wet cloth over the face for a minute or two to open up pores before smoothing on the mud mask. This will allow the mud to absorb more oil and impurities in the skin.

Using fingers, smooth the mud mask over the face beginning with sides of the face and brow applying the paste in a thick layer to clean, dry skin. Make sure to keep away from the eyes and lips.

A one-inch paintbrush can be used for an even application. While the mask is drying, sit back and relax. Staying still will make sure the clay does not crack or fall off.

After 10 to 12 minutes, wipe mask off with a very hot washcloth. Periodically run the washcloth under hot tap water, and squeeze out any excess water then press it to the face to soften the clay. Then, lightly wash off the mask in a circular movement. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Pat skin dry with a soft towel and then follow up with a mild toner and moisturizer to soften skin and nourish it throughout the day.

Some types of clay are a mild skin purifier that does not soak up oil, which makes them safe for dry or delicate skin textures. Others types deep clean and remove oils and toxins from the skin, which can help oily skin and minimize the impacts of pollution. For optimal results, opt for one that best suits each skin type.

Refrigerate any remaining mask for up to one month in an airtight container and reapply once a week.

I hope you find this post useful! And don’t forget that I am participating in the Refashion Runway contest! Please vote here, to keep me in the competition and see more of my refashions!

Beauty Swap 2013

sweet-summer-swap

I have never been a huge fan of beauty swaps, but when I saw one on Luchessa’s blog, I decided to give it a go! If you’ve never participated in a swap like that, it’s really easy, you just need to make time to talk to the other person, find out what they like, shop for them and mail it all out!
This swap’s rules were simple:
– $20 limit without shipping
– Mail everything out by May 25

The swap was international, but I got paired up with Julie, the author of Short and Sweet in Texas. Not only was I excited to save on some shipping, I was really excited to find out that Julie’s blog is a nail polish blog! I am kind of behind in that department, so she became my saving grace, updating my collection and nail care arsenal!

But before I show what I got, let me show what I sent:
