3 day soup + juice jus by julie cleanse: day 2 diary

3-day-soup-and-juice-cleane

Happy day 2 of the soup and juice cleanse to me. I am already feeling lighter and skinnier. The left over soup and juice from yesterday are safely stored in my freezer for next week just in case you were wondering.

Today was half day at work for me, so I only packed two juices and one soup. I have time to drink only one, but I go through two cups of coffee. What can I say? I love my caffeine.

I leave work around 12.30 to go home and eat before my dentist appointment at 2. You know they say a watched pot never boils? Maybe it doesn’t boil, but it surely heats up my soup. I inhale that Red Lentil (140 calories) I am in such a rush!

I walk to my appointment and it feels so good to be outside, the mid-winter meltdown is in full swing and I can’t complain.

I get back home around 3.15 and head to out apartment gym. I usually go to the WAC Downtown, or the Kohl’s location, but today I just need a quick 30 minutes on the elliptical. I do the hill climb preset for a little over 30 minutes.

I am back home by 4, because Sarah is coming over to knit. We are working on Irish hiking scarves, as well as pussy cat hats for the Women’s March in Madison this Saturday.

Soon Kaitlyn joins us, and as we are watching How I Met Your Mother, I decide to make some Mac and Cheese for the girls and for Sam when he comes home 🙂 As they are enjoying their food, I make myself a cup of Detox Broth (50 calories). That soup is hands down my favorite. I don’t know if it’s the mushrooms, or the spices, but I could eat it everyday. It reminds me of a mushroom and barley soup my grandma used to make when I lived in Russia.

Once again I have a soup and a juice left over. Tomorrow will be interesting, I am going to Chicago to comp shop for work. I will let you know if I come up with any good ways of being on a cleanse while on the go!

3 DAY SOUP + JUICE JUS by JULIE CLEANSE: Day 1 Diary

jus-by-julie-soup-and-juice-cleanse-day-1

Today I started my second cleanse. Why do you ask? Wasn’t the first time enough? Well, let me tell you, this time it’s different. This time I am on a soup and juice cleanse. I am a huge soup fan, I grew up in Russia eating soup for lunch almost every day. I remember my grandma making a big pot of soup over the weekend and it would last us all week. That’s why when I got an opportunity to try this soup and juice cleanse I couldn’t say no.

Before I go into the details of my 1st day of cleansing (please make sure you follow my Insta story for updates throughout the day) I want to let you know that there is a cool and healthy 2017 Plan For a Happy & Healthy Body on JusByJulie.com. You can sign up for email updates, browse other people’s resolutions, and even get a checklist (you know you want to) to help you stay on the healthy track! I got mine already 🙂

This day started early, my husband works out of Chicago one day a week, and today was the day. He takes an early morning train out of Milwaukee, which means our alarm clock starts going off around 4.30 am. I drive Sam to the train around 5.30, and stop at my neighborhood Starbucks on the way home to get a venti coffee. Coffee is normally allowed on the cleanse, just black, no cream or sugar. I don’t have a problem with that, I just need to stay awake.

I leave for work at 7 am. Around 8.30 I drink my first juice – Sweet Spin (140 calories). Work was busy today, and I didn’t get to eat my first soup till noon. However I manage to finish my coffee and drink about 3 bottles of water. My rule of thumb after finishing a juice is refilling the bottle with water, and drinking that. Needless to say I peed on the hour every hour.

I finally have my Split Pea Soup, and it turns out to be way more filling than expected, while containing only 140 calories.

I save my Pomegranate Juice for 3 pm, it is hands down my favorite juice of all. The spicy kick and whopping 90 calories make it a perfect afternoon pick me upper.

After that the rest of my day is full of more meetings and emails. I don’t leave the office till 6.30 pm, heading to the train station to pick up Sam.

We get home around 7.15 pm, and while my husband enjoys a couple slices of homemade pizza, I heat up my Carrot Ginger Soup (120 calories).

And here I am not writing this post, working through yet another bottle of water. I am feeling great. I wish I would’ve made it to Zumba, but oh well. My fitbit reads 8100 steps, and I am going to try my hardest to make it to 10k before I go to sleep!

I saved Butternut Squash Soup and Chia Berry Juice in my freezer for a rainy day.

So, how was your day?

My Balayage Experience at Get Dolled Up Salon with Melissa

get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayageget-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayageget-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage

I love getting my hair done period. So when Melissa from Get Dolled Up reached out to me offering a balayage and hair cut experience at a Shorewood based salon I couldn’t say no!

I switched from highlights to balayage in 2014, when I saw an picture on Instagram and knew that my hair didn’t have to look stripey, but could have a beautiful blended effect. And have been a balayage convert ever since.

Melissa spent about 4 hours on the cut and color but it was so worth it! Last time I got my hair done I wasn’t happy with the cut. The girl cut out a weird bang portion that I was looking to get blended in, resulting in me requesting Melissa to take about 2 inches off.

The balayage looks amazing, I got baby lights added, which I’ve never had before, they make the blond strands stand out even more. I also got to try Schwarzkopf hair dye again after a very long break. Schwarzkopf is a really popular brand in Russia, but having been living in the States for a long time, and coming from Minneapolis, which is Aveda central, it was a nice change.

Now bleached hair can be tricky to take care of, that’s why I also want to share my favorite products that help me keep my hair looking blonder and healthier longer.

best-hair-care-products-for-balayage

  1. Shimmer Lights Shampoo and Conditioner – use these once or twice a week to keep your hair from looking too yellow.
  2. Maple Holistics Grapeseed Oil – rich in vitamin E, it’s perfect for hair growth. I love deep conditioning my hair and massaging my scalp with it about once a week.
  3. Coconut Curls by OGX – even though my hair is pretty straight, I use this product on my ends to keep them from being too dry.
  4. Matrix Heat Buffer – a must have spray for every time I use a styling tool, like the GHD curve featured in last weeks Beauty Brunch Post, a blow dryer or a straightener.
  5. Matrix So Long Damage Iron Tamer – a cream type of heat protectant. I use this on damp hair more than anything. The heat buffer (#4) is perfect for dry hair.
  6. L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil – perfect for a finishing touch to make my hair smooth and shiny. See the full review on L’Oreal’s Extraordinary Hair line on my YouTube channel.
  7. Dessange Paris Color Restorative Top Coat Serum with UV filter – same idea as the oil above, but the UV protectant makes it my number one choice!

I hope you enjoyed my hair transformation and find my list of products helpful! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the above and what your opinion is! Have a product that works for you? Please share that as well in the comments below!

Beauty Brunch – GHD Curve Review

ghd-curve

Happy Sunday beautiful people! This year I am bringing back the weekly Beauty Brunch section on my blog, where you’ll be able to find lists of my favorite products, reviews and all other beauty related updates.

I want to start this series with a GHD Curve review, a styling tool that I have been using for the past couple of months. It’s a barrel shaped curling wand that has replaced all the other wands I own. This ghd tool combines patented tri-zone technology and the optimum curling temperature to help style all hair types and textures. From my personal experience it’s definitely easier to use when your hair is on the longer side. I recently got a hair cut and it’s a bit challenging to curl my hair. I also recommend using a heat protectant when styling with GHD Curve. Another helpful tip – hair spray before and after the use! That will make your curls last longer.

Join me on my 2017 Health and Wellness Journey

2017 journey

Today I am turning a new page here at BeingZhenya.com. I am starting a health and wellness journey that I want to share with you. I’ve been thinking a lot about the blog and whether to continue writing, and I decided that it was time to put more time and effort into it.

Since starting my first big job out of college last August I found myself spending more time on the couch with a glass of wine watching yet another show on Netflix. Even my regular trips to the gym seemed to be pointless.

That’s why I am starting 2017 with another Whole 30 challenge. Sam and I did it a year and a half ago and it worked so well for us. I will be sharing my grocery hauls as well as my favorite recipes with you. And even though the challenge is only 30 days, I am planning on continuing it through the year.

popsugar january jump start

If 30 days seems too long, I would like to recommend the POPSUGAR January Jump Start plan for 2017 which includes clean eating recipes and 2-week workout plan! It’s easy to navigate, and some of the workouts even include videos, so you can simply follow along. I will be continuing attending classes at the WAC, sticking with strength and boot camp, but I will give a more detailed update once I see the January/February schedule.

Another important aspect of my health and wellness journey for 2017 is my mental and emotional health. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends were battling depression and anxiety. I have been going through a lot over the past few months as well. Some of the major 2016 events included our move to Milwaukee, leaving my Minneapolis friends, graduating from college, starting a new job. It’s stressful when it’s just you, but when you are moving with a spouse, it’s even more so. I’m looking for 2017 to slow down and for things to settle down a bit, but we’ll see. I am planning on spending less time on my phone, more time with my friends and family, more time reading and writing.

I want to wish you all a happy new year, let’s make 2017 kick ass!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! I feel so fortunate I got to spend it with my friend Kaitlyn and her family!

The rest of this long weekend was spent catching up on reading, blogging and organizing my apartment. I also got to see my friend Jessica and catch up on what’s going on in Minneapolis.

Today’s outfit is a layering masterpiece, at least in my book! I am usually not very good at layering. I find it difficult to find pieces that go together, but this time maybe it’s the bordeaux color that helps me pull it off together.

Once again all the photos are by @kaitlyn.luckow and if you like my outfit, you can shop it or similar pieces below:

A Very Mod Style Monday Mode with LATTORI and Link Up

mod style mod style mod style

Do you have a look or a style that you go for regardless of the season? Something you rely on when in doubt? For me it’s the mod 60’s style dresses that help show off my legs, while being work appropriate. I love this LATTORI dress exactly for that reason. It’s easy shape and vibrant colors help you get noticed, but not too much. Styling it was as easy as 1-2-3. I threw on some heels, and viola. That’s why I love dresses. They are an outfit on their own. I always feel better about spending money on a dress if I am in the store too. It’s an easy throw on solution to early morning dilemmas that I am sure we all face each and every day!

I hope you enjoyed this outfit! I have one more LATTORI dress to share and I am saving that one for next week.

Writing this post and acting like everything is okay would be wrong. Let’s be honest, last week was full of surprises not just for our country, but for the whole world. As some of you may know I became a citizen in July of this year and this was my first presidential election in the US. I’ve voted in presidential elections in Russia before, where you know the outcome of the election long before it’s over. It’s different here, it’s better here and I will always appreciate this country and what it’s done for me. I don’t know what the future holds, but I keep looking forward with hope and love. Hang in there and if you are ever looking for support feel free to reach out any time!

I also wanted to share this new website I’ve recently discovered called Octer. It’s a cool website that highlights current trends, showcases the latest not just in women’s but men’s fashion, as well as beauty, home and kids. I love going on there for inspiration and also to satisfy my online shopping cravings. Items are broken down by categories, then you can filter it by a whole bunch of other criteria, including the stores. That’s how I was able to find my new denim jacket!

Here is to a great Monday and a better week! Can’t wait to see your posts, please link up below and help us spread the word 😉

Happy Monday! Today’s post is a little different. Yes there is a style component and a link up, but I also want to talk to you about Nature Made®, the #1 Pharmacist Recommended brand for many key dietary supplement categories (Based on the 2016 U.S. News & World Report – Pharmacy Times Survey) The vitamins that help me take my health to the next level. Okay, maybe that was an overstatement. These are the vitamins that I actually look forward to taking every morning.

I have recently gone to Walmart to shop for Nature Made vitamins. Walmart offers a great variety and prices on these products. I love shopping for vitamins, reading about the different benefits that they have, and deciding whether or not they fit in with my lifestyle. If you don’t know Nature Made® has a variety of vitamins, minerals, and supplements (VMS) to help support nutritional gaps with your health goals in mind ranging from Digestive Support, Heart Health & Function, Energy Metabolism, Women’s Health and much more!†

This time I decided to go back to basics and pick the “Multi for Her” gummies with Omega-3s. Now there is a part of me that loves these vitamins for their resemblance to candy, but I do strongly believe that taking your daily vitamins can help your health and overall wellbeing.

I work a lot, go to the gym almost daily, and still want to spend time with my friends and family, so these vitamins fit right in. Needless to say I bought two bottles to help me achieve mind-body balance 😉 Next on my list – Nature Made® Probiotics, that are also conveniently available at Walmart SuperCenters. These Nature Made® Advanced Dual Action Probiotic has been clinically studied and provides dual support to both your small and large intestine for comprehensive coverage to help support digestive balance and healthy gut flora.†”

Of course, there is something in this post for you. Make sure to enter here for a chance to win one of 60 Walmart gift cards worth $50 each (No Purchase Necessary).

Now for the style aspect of the post – I’ve been wanting to capture the His for Her trend for a few weeks now, and I feel like this outfit translates it perfectly. I used all of the pieces that I already had in my closet to create this look.

A huge thanks to Kaitlyn for taking the time out of her day to take pictures with me! You are absolutely wonderful! Make sure to check the blog she writes together with Sarah – The Duck and The Owl.
