I hope you all had a chance to watch the Oscars! As much as I wanted LaLaLand to get every Oscar they were nominated for, that didn’t happen. Oh well! As always speeches and outfits were my favorite. The one thing that confused me the most were the Walmart receipt short films, and the whole Walmart sponsorship of the ceremony in general. Anyone else? What looks were your favorite?

With spring being just around the corner, and let’s be honest, it felt like spring over the past few days here in Milwaukee, we even had lunch outside at work today, it’s perfect timing to start thinking about updating beauty routine! And this is where Babble Boxx comes in!

What is the Babble Boxx? It’s a collection of full and trial size beauty related products that I have recently received in the mail. My box included:

  1. Clear Eyes Pure Relief® Multi-Symptom the Winner of Product of the Year 2017 for Eye Care category, based on TNS consumer survey! Clear eyes has been a number one selling brand for a long time but now it has launched the first preservative free eye drops in a multi-dose bottle at retail in the US. The bottle is actually the secret to the product’s preservative free formula – it has a unique built in purifying filter that keeps the bacteria out. This product relieves red eyes, as well as burning, itchy, dry, irritated, gritty or watery eyes and provide up to 12 hours of comfort.  I am definitely going to keep a bottle handy at my desk in the office. We’ve all had those days of endless staring at a computer screen that’s why I am especially looking forward to using Clear Eyes Pure Relief Multi-Symptom. In addition a $4 Off coupon is available from 2/13 to 3/13 on Coupons.com!
  2. LumaRX Full Body Device. I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for this product. Good-bye unwanted body hair! This devices is based on IPL technology with results similar to professional treatments. Hello savings and smooth skin! Summer can’t come soon enough! If you are wondering how this technology works, I strongly recommend looking into LumaRx®, but to give you the scoop it emits light energy that penetrates deep into the skin and reaches the hair root. The heat stuns active hair follicles, and disrupts hair growth cycle and helps prevent future hair growth. I will definitely help you posted on my results! I plan on starting using this product right away!  Receive $75 off the LumaRX Full Body Device with code “BB75”. This promotion is available until March 11th 2017 at 12:00 EST.
  3. Dermae E: Vitamin C Concentrated Serum. I am always impressed with brands’ abilities to send me right products at the right time! Just as I was running low on my skin care, this skin savior came in the mail! This serum aims to boost collagen health, minimizing the look of fine lines and wrinkles as well as improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. Some of the ingredients include Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin, Aloe and Vitamin E. Needless to say this product has quickly climbed to the top of my daily skin care routine list.
  4. Dermae E: Vitamin C Renewing Moisturizer is the serum’s best friend! This is a lightweight, radiance-boosting moisturizer that supports collagen health, helps to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles. As you can tell together with the serum this is an unstoppable skin care duo! The moisturizer includes Probiotics and Rooibos that work along with Vitamin C to help shield and strengthen skin’s natural defense. I will also keep you posted on my results! Would anyone be interested in the before and after post?
  5. Kérastase Ciment Thermique. Another product I am extremely excited to try this season. I’ve been bleaching my hair since I was 16, and I am always on the look out for the new products to help keep my hair looking and feeling healthy. This product is a leave-in primer that strengthens and protects hair during heat styling. Hello curling wand and hair straightener, here is looking at you! I can’t wait to put it to the test!
  6. Winky Lux: Flower Balm – this product is magic! It applies on clear and then reacts to the skin’s pH levels, uniquely creating the perfect shade of pink lips, so it looks different on everyone! How amazing is that? I have to admit I already had a Winky Lux lipstick and I love it! But this, it just blows my mind! And did I mention there is a real chrysanthemum in the product? Plus it’s coconut scented, which is basically my favorite scent!
  7. Winky Lux: Stella Marina Lipstick – for the dare devil in you is how I would describe this lipstick! I am absolutely obsessed with the burgundy with little bits of metallic pink mixed in. The lipstick is ultra long wearing, so no need to touch up every hour 😉

I hope you enjoyed my review of the Babble Box! Have you tried any of the products? Do tell!

The Manduka yoga mat towel and Daily Concepts Hair Wrap are so perfect for the gym rat like me. The mat is actually the reason I am considering trying hot yoga.

3 day soup + juice jus by julie cleanse: day 2 diary

3-day-soup-and-juice-cleane

Happy day 2 of the soup and juice cleanse to me. I am already feeling lighter and skinnier. The left over soup and juice from yesterday are safely stored in my freezer for next week just in case you were wondering.

Today was half day at work for me, so I only packed two juices and one soup. I have time to drink only one, but I go through two cups of coffee. What can I say? I love my caffeine.

I leave work around 12.30 to go home and eat before my dentist appointment at 2. You know they say a watched pot never boils? Maybe it doesn’t boil, but it surely heats up my soup. I inhale that Red Lentil (140 calories) I am in such a rush!

I walk to my appointment and it feels so good to be outside, the mid-winter meltdown is in full swing and I can’t complain.

I get back home around 3.15 and head to out apartment gym. I usually go to the WAC Downtown, or the Kohl’s location, but today I just need a quick 30 minutes on the elliptical. I do the hill climb preset for a little over 30 minutes.

I am back home by 4, because Sarah is coming over to knit. We are working on Irish hiking scarves, as well as pussy cat hats for the Women’s March in Madison this Saturday.

Soon Kaitlyn joins us, and as we are watching How I Met Your Mother, I decide to make some Mac and Cheese for the girls and for Sam when he comes home 🙂 As they are enjoying their food, I make myself a cup of Detox Broth (50 calories). That soup is hands down my favorite. I don’t know if it’s the mushrooms, or the spices, but I could eat it everyday. It reminds me of a mushroom and barley soup my grandma used to make when I lived in Russia.

Once again I have a soup and a juice left over. Tomorrow will be interesting, I am going to Chicago to comp shop for work. I will let you know if I come up with any good ways of being on a cleanse while on the go!

3 DAY SOUP + JUICE JUS by JULIE CLEANSE: Day 1 Diary

jus-by-julie-soup-and-juice-cleanse-day-1

Today I started my second cleanse. Why do you ask? Wasn’t the first time enough? Well, let me tell you, this time it’s different. This time I am on a soup and juice cleanse. I am a huge soup fan, I grew up in Russia eating soup for lunch almost every day. I remember my grandma making a big pot of soup over the weekend and it would last us all week. That’s why when I got an opportunity to try this soup and juice cleanse I couldn’t say no.

Before I go into the details of my 1st day of cleansing (please make sure you follow my Insta story for updates throughout the day) I want to let you know that there is a cool and healthy 2017 Plan For a Happy & Healthy Body on JusByJulie.com. You can sign up for email updates, browse other people’s resolutions, and even get a checklist (you know you want to) to help you stay on the healthy track! I got mine already 🙂

This day started early, my husband works out of Chicago one day a week, and today was the day. He takes an early morning train out of Milwaukee, which means our alarm clock starts going off around 4.30 am. I drive Sam to the train around 5.30, and stop at my neighborhood Starbucks on the way home to get a venti coffee. Coffee is normally allowed on the cleanse, just black, no cream or sugar. I don’t have a problem with that, I just need to stay awake.

I leave for work at 7 am. Around 8.30 I drink my first juice – Sweet Spin (140 calories). Work was busy today, and I didn’t get to eat my first soup till noon. However I manage to finish my coffee and drink about 3 bottles of water. My rule of thumb after finishing a juice is refilling the bottle with water, and drinking that. Needless to say I peed on the hour every hour.

jus-by-julie-soup-and-juice-cleanse-day-1

I finally have my Split Pea Soup, and it turns out to be way more filling than expected, while containing only 140 calories.

I save my Pomegranate Juice for 3 pm, it is hands down my favorite juice of all. The spicy kick and whopping 90 calories make it a perfect afternoon pick me upper.

After that the rest of my day is full of more meetings and emails. I don’t leave the office till 6.30 pm, heading to the train station to pick up Sam.

We get home around 7.15 pm, and while my husband enjoys a couple slices of homemade pizza, I heat up my Carrot Ginger Soup (120 calories).

jus-by-julie-soup-and-juice-cleanse-day-1

And here I am not writing this post, working through yet another bottle of water. I am feeling great. I wish I would’ve made it to Zumba, but oh well. My fitbit reads 8100 steps, and I am going to try my hardest to make it to 10k before I go to sleep!

I saved Butternut Squash Soup and Chia Berry Juice in my freezer for a rainy day.

So, how was your day?

My Balayage Experience at Get Dolled Up Salon with Melissa

get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage

I love getting my hair done period. So when Melissa from Get Dolled Up reached out to me offering a balayage and hair cut experience at a Shorewood based salon I couldn’t say no!

I switched from highlights to balayage in 2014, when I saw an picture on Instagram and knew that my hair didn’t have to look stripey, but could have a beautiful blended effect. And have been a balayage convert ever since.

Melissa spent about 4 hours on the cut and color but it was so worth it! Last time I got my hair done I wasn’t happy with the cut. The girl cut out a weird bang portion that I was looking to get blended in, resulting in me requesting Melissa to take about 2 inches off.

The balayage looks amazing, I got baby lights added, which I’ve never had before, they make the blond strands stand out even more. I also got to try Schwarzkopf hair dye again after a very long break. Schwarzkopf is a really popular brand in Russia, but having been living in the States for a long time, and coming from Minneapolis, which is Aveda central, it was a nice change.

Now bleached hair can be tricky to take care of, that’s why I also want to share my favorite products that help me keep my hair looking blonder and healthier longer.

best-hair-care-products-for-balayage

  1. Shimmer Lights Shampoo and Conditioner – use these once or twice a week to keep your hair from looking too yellow.
  2. Maple Holistics Grapeseed Oil – rich in vitamin E, it’s perfect for hair growth. I love deep conditioning my hair and massaging my scalp with it about once a week.
  3. Coconut Curls by OGX – even though my hair is pretty straight, I use this product on my ends to keep them from being too dry.
  4. Matrix Heat Buffer – a must have spray for every time I use a styling tool, like the GHD curve featured in last weeks Beauty Brunch Post, a blow dryer or a straightener.
  5. Matrix So Long Damage Iron Tamer – a cream type of heat protectant. I use this on damp hair more than anything. The heat buffer (#4) is perfect for dry hair.
  6. L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil – perfect for a finishing touch to make my hair smooth and shiny. See the full review on L’Oreal’s Extraordinary Hair line on my YouTube channel.
  7. Dessange Paris Color Restorative Top Coat Serum with UV filter – same idea as the oil above, but the UV protectant makes it my number one choice!

I hope you enjoyed my hair transformation and find my list of products helpful! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the above and what your opinion is! Have a product that works for you? Please share that as well in the comments below!

Beauty Brunch – GHD Curve Review

ghd-curve

Happy Sunday beautiful people! This year I am bringing back the weekly Beauty Brunch section on my blog, where you’ll be able to find lists of my favorite products, reviews and all other beauty related updates.

I want to start this series with a GHD Curve review, a styling tool that I have been using for the past couple of months. It’s a barrel shaped curling wand that has replaced all the other wands I own. This ghd tool combines patented tri-zone technology and the optimum curling temperature to help style all hair types and textures. From my personal experience it’s definitely easier to use when your hair is on the longer side. I recently got a hair cut and it’s a bit challenging to curl my hair. I also recommend using a heat protectant when styling with GHD Curve. Another helpful tip – hair spray before and after the use! That will make your curls last longer.

Join me on my 2017 Health and Wellness Journey

2017 journey

Today I am turning a new page here at BeingZhenya.com. I am starting a health and wellness journey that I want to share with you. I’ve been thinking a lot about the blog and whether to continue writing, and I decided that it was time to put more time and effort into it.

Since starting my first big job out of college last August I found myself spending more time on the couch with a glass of wine watching yet another show on Netflix. Even my regular trips to the gym seemed to be pointless.

That’s why I am starting 2017 with another Whole 30 challenge. Sam and I did it a year and a half ago and it worked so well for us. I will be sharing my grocery hauls as well as my favorite recipes with you. And even though the challenge is only 30 days, I am planning on continuing it through the year.

popsugar january jump start

If 30 days seems too long, I would like to recommend the POPSUGAR January Jump Start plan for 2017 which includes clean eating recipes and 2-week workout plan! It’s easy to navigate, and some of the workouts even include videos, so you can simply follow along. I will be continuing attending classes at the WAC, sticking with strength and boot camp, but I will give a more detailed update once I see the January/February schedule.

Another important aspect of my health and wellness journey for 2017 is my mental and emotional health. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends were battling depression and anxiety. I have been going through a lot over the past few months as well. Some of the major 2016 events included our move to Milwaukee, leaving my Minneapolis friends, graduating from college, starting a new job. It’s stressful when it’s just you, but when you are moving with a spouse, it’s even more so. I’m looking for 2017 to slow down and for things to settle down a bit, but we’ll see. I am planning on spending less time on my phone, more time with my friends and family, more time reading and writing.

I want to wish you all a happy new year, let’s make 2017 kick ass!
