Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream Review

20140423-134840.jpg

Having been in love with multiple BB creams, let’s just say they work great for my skin. I was intrigued by the new CC products that kept popping up left and right! And the first CC cream that I tried, aside from the samples in the store, was this Studio Gear Hydrating one.

CC stands for Color Correcting. And that’s just what I need. Back in my high school/college years I used to have a lot of serious acne that left some scars. And even though oil pulling has greatly helped my skin condition, I still wanted a cover up, that would look good and feel good.

This product promises:

Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.

Key Benefits:

Prevents fine lines and wrinkles with collagen-building ingredients
Restores skin elasticity by promoting moisture retention
Brightens and illuminates skin with a non-oily, complete coverage application

Not too bad right? So let’s see what it did to my skin!

Texture and color of the product

I have been using the CC cream for over a month now, I had a travel size sample before committing to the larger version. Let me explain a bit. Even though I got this product for free, for example this one was powered by BrandBacker, I often decline offers to try or test a certain item, because I already have so many of the similar item. I know free is appealing and good, but who needs 10 foundations or blushes? That’s why before I accept products for review, I think twice!

I also like the hydrating feature. Since I wake up really early, sometimes when I do my makeup I’m not completely awake yet, and I forget to put on moisturizer. Yeah… So this is a great way for me to keep my skin hydrated, even if I mess my beauty routine up.

In the end of the day, it’s a great product, it does wear off though, but looks and acts great under a layer of powder. SPF factor is also a great plus. But it is pricey and I probably wouldn’t buy it for myself if I had the choice.

Have you tried a CC cream? What are your thoughts on the whole alphabetized skin care products trend?

L is for Lace {A-Z Challenge}

lace-dresses-shop lace-collection-shop lace-shoes-shop

As much as I would like to make this post about leather, I am going a different, more feminine route this time and posting about lace. Some may consider lace old fashioned, it definitely doesn’t have the edge leather brings to an outfit. But sometimes no edge is good. I feel like I’ve been edgy with a lot of my outfits lately. I think it helps me stay strong and confident. You know they say – be careful about your style, it tells people who you are. Sometimes I want my style to state that I am tough and strong and you better not mess with me. But today I am feeling girly and flirty, today is about lace.

If your style could talk, what would it say about you?

Personal Microderm Device – My experience

pmd-personal-microderm-device

It’s been 3 weeks since I started using a Personal Microderm Device. I remember when I first heard about it after one of the seasons of The Bachelor ended (yes, back in the day I used to watch that show), and thought to myself – Wow! That’s a neat product. I am so excited to actually own it and share my thoughts and experience with you. And as you may have guessed, this is a sponsored post, but I wouldn’t be sharing it, if I didn’t think you’d find this review useful, and as always – all opinions are my own!

personal-microderm-device

So what is PMD Personal Microderm device?

“PMD is an amazing device that helps women uncover their most vibrant, radiant complexion through an easy series of treatments. It replicates the treatment given by professionals by using the same Aluminum Oxide crystals on the patented spinning discs. The hand-held tool uses vacuum action to gently pull skin towards the disc for optimum exfoliation. Once it removes the dead skin cells and reveals a clear, healthy complexion, your skin is able to absorb products much more effectively. It works will all skin types and unclogs pores, smooths, evens tone, reduces blemishes and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”

How do you use it?

This is a very helpful video that talks about the device. It covers everything from plugging it in, to cleaning it, to avoiding the eye area. It talks about the do’s and don’ts and helps you find your way to a clear complexion.

How do I use it?

I use my device once a week, usually on Saturday night, before bed. I like using my device at night, because it allows me not to worry whether I am wearing enough sunscreen or not. Plus I use a thicker, richer cream at night time, and I want that to absorb quickly.
The first time I used the device was a little funny and awkward, it almost felt like I was vacuuming my face. But I got the hang of it soon enough. And no, it doesn’t hurt at all!
I am still on my white training disk and am loving it. I will probably replace it after one more treatment and switch to the green one.
I have only tried PMD Personal Microderm Device on my face, with an exception of testing it out on my arm. I am kind of nervous and excited to try it on my elbows or heels.

Have I noticed any results?

Absolutely! I noticed that my skin is a lot smoother, especially on my cheeks (that’s always been my problem area). My acne scars heal faster, and if I pop a pimple (let’s be honest here! Who doesn’t do that?) it goes away faster too.
I am paying special attention to my nose when I treat my skin, I am really hoping it will help with black heads!

Skincare with PMD

As interesting as it’s going to sound, PMD offers a 3 step skin care system along with the device. Having worked in cosmetics, I am a huge fan of a 3 step system. So that definitely earned them some points with me!

Special Offer

Not only am I sharing my experience and review with you today, but I am also excited to share this discount code! It’s good through the end of May and will help you save on your own PMD Personal Microderm Device. Just enter pmdbeauty25 at checkout!

I am definitely planning on using my device for a couple more weeks, and then taking a break. I want to make sure I do what’s best for my skin. I will probably cut back on the microdermabrasion during the summer, since I spend a lot of time outside.

Overall the device is easy to use, it’s effective and extremely helpful. I can see it becoming an important part of my weekly skincare routine.

Have you ever gotten a microdermabrasion? What about a PMD Device? Do tell!

I is for Indie, and indie is trendy. I learned that back in 2006, and haven’t forgotten it since. Indie to me means a symbiosis of styles, pieces, and eras. Indie to me is taking time to make (sew, knit, crochet, embroider, …) my own clothes. Indie to me is thrifting and looking for inspiration in the vintage pieces I find.

Indie to me is wearing cowboy boots to work, and being proud of it! What does indie mean to you?

G is for Glamour {A-Z Challenge}

Glamour-is-a-state-of-mind

Merriam-Webster defines glamour as “a very exciting and attractive quality, a magic spell, an exciting and often illusory and romantic attractiveness”. Oxford Dictionary says: “The attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special”. It’s a word that sounds almost the same in Russian as it does in English. Glamour is universal and it’s everywhere. Glamour is full of excitement and appeal, it’s something we want and long for. Glamour to me is life in a big city. Travelling. A career. Designer clothes…

But then it becomes my goal, and I am working my way through the daily routine to get there, to my better life. And while I am on my way, I’ll shop some!

Retro Inspired Makeup Looks for Prom

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser. #BeautyInspiration #CollectiveBias

60s-glam-makeup-tutorial

What are your go-to evening/special occasion makeup looks? Do you accentuate your eyes, or lips or both? Today I’ve created a tutorial for you, that’s inspired by the 60′s, my favorite style and beauty decade. I like to think of it as glam, some people like to call it bombshell. Whatever the name is, this look will make you feel like a million bucks, and boost your confidence. I also hope that this will be a helpful prom make up idea, and a good continuation to the prom style posts I wrote. You can check them out here and here.

Rimmel-London-60s-Glam-Look-Products

For this look I’ll be using: Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation in Ivory, Rimmel Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Mascara in Extreme Black, Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent, Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl in Black, Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick #107

To create today’s look I made a stop at Walmart and picked up a couple new products by Rimmel London, like their new mascara. Hands down Rimmel London has the best cheap mascara – $5.47 for this Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Baby! That can’t be beat. Plus their Stay Matte foundation  is simply wonderful. I really like how Walmart’s beauty aisles are at the front of the store, they are not as crowded, and you can get in and out in under 20 minutes.

Walmart-Beauty-Aisle-Rimmel

Let’s begin:

- Start by applying the foundation. Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation is a liquid mousse, so you need very little! Yay for longer lasting products!

- Define your brows! They frame the face!

- Apply eyeshadow primer and eyeshadow of your choice. I recommend lighter, neutral colors.

- Next apply the eyeliner. If cat eye is something you haven’t mastered yet, stop at the outer conner of your eye. You’ll still achieve the defined and bold look. Trust me!

- Now it’s mascara’s turn. I love Rimmel mascaras, I just can’t emphasize that enough. There are very few drugstore mascaras that are actually good. But the Retro Glam one is amazing. I think it’s the perfect combination of formula and the shape of the brush that help define and create thick full lashes.

- Next is powder. You need just a little bit to set the foundation.

- Blush is optional for this look. I skipped the step, as I have very defined cheek bones.

- And finally the lipstick. I can’t get enough of Kate’s matte collection. Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

As for the hair, I teased the top part, pinned it in the back, and curled the bottom part to create a Bridget Bardot inspired look. What do you guys think?

Oil Pulling

oil-pulling

It all started during #beautychat, (By the way did you guys know I am addicted to Twitter chats?) when @BeautyHigh mentioned oil pulling. And of course I was immediately intrigued. Having had the same jar of coconut oil in my pantry for over a year, I knew I had to try it. I originally started buying coconut oil for my hair. I used at as a deep conditioning treatment, but got lazy. Though I started again, so sit tight, there will be some amazing hair masks recipes coming up to BeingZhenya.com soon!

So what is oil pulling?
Oil pulling is the latest trend to take the wellness community by storm, but it’s actually a traditional practice in Ayurveda — a holistic medical system from India that dates back 3,000 to 5,000 years. Ayurveda’s key objective: to promote good health and well-being through balancing the mind, body and spirit. According to practitioners, it’s when this balance is disturbed that sickness can occur. To maintain order, specific treatments, including oil pulling, are determined based on a person’s dosha, or mind-body type. (TheDailyBeast.com)

Where do you begin?
All you need is some coconut oil, a spoon, and 20 minutes of your time in the morning. I have been buying my coconut oil from Marshalls/TJ Maxx, but Costco has an extremely appealing deal now for Organic Coconut oil – 2 giant tubs for $23.99. I think I could bathe in that amount of oil! I spend the 20 minutes catching up on blogs, commenting and spreading the blog love, so it’s time well spent for sure.

When I put the oil in my mouth it’s hard, and I let it melt inside, trust me it does it in about 1 minute! My first day was extremely awkward though. The oil kept squirting out of my moth (because I probably had too much in), and dripping down my chin, so I was constantly wiping it up. Now that I’ve been doing it for 2 weeks, I barely even notice.

The first time I tried it my salivary glands kind of freaked out as well, and there was too much saliva in my mouth. But since it’s good for the body and your body knows it, it’s never happened again.

After 20 minutes are up, I spit out the oil in the trash can, since I’ve heard that it’s not good for the septic system (glad I found that out early, because our house is over 50 years old), and brush and floss my teeth like I normally do. I know some people are substituting teeth brushing with oil pulling, that’s up to you.

What are the benefits?
I can list you off what all the magazines and blogs are saying, but let’s be honest, you don’t want to hear that. These are the changes I’ve noticed:

- No nasal congestion or sinus problems, even if I wake up congested, after I oil pull, it all goes away. My husband has also been battling a cold, and I haven’t gotten it, which is amazing. I do have a history of really bad sinus infections, and I am so happy this is helping. I can’t do the neti pot, but I can do oil pulling!

- No more cystic acne. I had about 2-3 bad ones, which at 27 is pretty embarrassing, but they are gone! And the best thing is – no new acne, not even when I am on my period (sorry for the TMI)!

- No more Chapstick! Oil pulling keeps my lips soft and moisturized throughout the day! Now if it could only do the same for my hands!

What do you think? A new crazy trend or a great way to detox your body? I created a little fact sheet for you in case you want to give it a shot!

C is for Chevron {A-Z Challenge}

chevron-dress chevron-pants chevron-shoes

Having already shared my love for Chambray with you last week, I decided to explore the beauty of chevron. I love this pattern on others, but haven’t been brave enough to try it out for myself. I have zero chevron items in my closet (I might have to take another look, but pretty sure there are none!), can you believe it?

I created a chevron themed collection in my favorite shopping app – Mavatar, and I hope you like my picks.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream Review

Jergens-BB-Body-Cream

I have recently come across Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream, and thought to myself – why don’t I give it a try? I’ve been loving BB Creams on my face, surely body cream would work just as well. And I was right.

The Jergens BB Body Cream is available for all light and medium-deep skin tones, has a sheer, quick-drying formula and promises results after one use, as well as in 5 days and on. It instantly hydrates and illuminates, and in 5 days: evens, firms, and corrects.

The product comes in a 7.5 oz/220 ml tube packaging. It’s very easy to apply, and use. I personally prefer to put it on right after the shower, due to it’s moisturizing feature. I love how it makes my skin look illuminated and even. And I can’t NOT mention the pleasant scent.

I’ve been battling dry skin over the winter, and was pleasantly surprised to notice that redness and unevenness is almost gone after applying this product.

But let me show you:

Now I’ve been using it for almost two weeks, and noticed positive changes in my skin. It feels and looks smoother, more even and illuminated. Try it! Your body will never BB the same!

Oh Minnesota winter, when will you leave already? Spring has been teasing us this weekend, only to delay it’s arrival until next weekend. What can I say? I can’t live comfortably unless it’s 60 degrees outside.

Spring signs are everywhere though, and I can’t wait to see what comes up in my garden.
