The Making of a Doll

I’ve tried making dolls on several occasions, but I can’t really recall what’s happened. I am pretty sure all of my previous attempts failed. This time, I had a purpose, the doll was going to be a Birthday gift, a very delayed one, but one nonetheless, for an amazing little girl I used to babysit. And since I only had one day to do it, I turned to Internet for help. I managed to find a pattern that I liked, though it was used for felt dolls, and since I only had enough felt to make a few items of clothing for the doll, I decided to use this pattern, and see how it would go!

As you may have noticed in the tutorial that I linked above, the dolls were hand-sewn, I made mine on a machine, once again, because the fabric I used was some mix of polyester and God-knows-what :)

And here is what I ended up with:

And then of course I made some clothes for her! I figured jeans, top and a jacket were a safe bet!

Have you ever tried making a doll? If so, how did it turnĀ  out? Also, if there are any patterns or tutorials that you especially like, please leave me links below!

I am also pet sitting for a fish for a few days! His name is Buckwheat, and he says hi!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cheers,

Z

  1. So cute and crafty! Love it.

  2. That is the cutest thing ever, very dear. Your friend will be tickled. I love the hair, it’s a riot. I’ve never made a doll but for a while I was making these giant cloth Country Bunnies for everyone. The clothes were always the fun part, I think it was a Butterick Pattern.

  3. Love this post! thanks! The clothes are so sweet!

  4. Cute. I love the long hair. I have made 3 or 4 dolls. It’s an excellent pattern in an old magazine which I haven’t been able to find for about a yr. I take my time, get everything perfect and they are the most beautiful hand made dolls. I’m want to make another for my grand daughter who is 1 1/2 yrs – hence I’ve been looking for the pattern! You have good weekend too
